As I am sure you are aware, the Department of Education is proposing a number of changes to teacher licensing rules for the state. One of the Advisory Board members was concerned that the Board had not heard from middle school folks about the proposed changes to the licensing rules that would directly impact middle school licensure. . Here are the proposed changes -
- There will no longer be middle school licenses.
- Middle school teachers have to take the higher Praxis II tests.
- Elementary licensed teachers could teach 5-6 grades, but 7-8 teachers will have to be secondary certified.
- All teachers, when they renew will move to the new proposed REPA rules, so those elementary trained teachers under Rules 46-47 will no longer be able to teacher 7-8 non-departmentalized.
