Microsoft Office & Open Office

In the fall, I talked about LJH making the switch from microsoft office to open office software. Open Office is a free open source application that duplicates most if not all of Microsoft Office's functionality.

A decision has been made that we will not put Microsoft Office on any new machines we purchase and we will not update Microsoft Office on any computers it already resides on. However, we are not going to remove Microsoft Office from any of the teacher computers it already sits on...The computer will just not receive any updates to the software.

Hopefully, you've had a chance to poke around Open Office at some point. As Open Office gets even better and Google Docs becomes more familiar to people we should all move away from the Microsoft Office versions on our desktop since it will inevitably be gone for good.
