The school rules are clear, fair, and consistently applied.
We did this as we were self evaluating ourselves with the Schools to Watch area of Social Equity. Social Equity according to Schools to Watch means:
High-performing schools with middle grades are socially equitable, democratic, and fair. They provide every student with high-quality teachers, resources, learning opportunities, and supports. They keep positive options open for all students.
Our Storm Watch needs and will play a huge role in us improving in this identified weakness which is why Craig conducted a session on Positive Behavior Intervention Supports last Friday during our PD day. Here is the purpose of the Storm Watch.
- Storm Watch emphasizes the use of proactive, educative, and reinforcement-based strategies to create a positive school climate and increase academic performance of all students.
- Storm Watch or PBS addresses the behavior of all students and not just those that exhibit negative or unacceptable behavior.
- It aims to build effective environments in which rewarding positive behavior is more effective than punishing problem behaviors.
How are you using this positive support to create a positive school climate for all of your students? If you have yet to reward students with a Storm Watch ticket or have been reluctant to use this support for students in your classrooms I encourage you to do so. Our consistency throughout the school with the Storm Watch will help us become the best we can be. Ask others how they are using the support in helping all students. Red Storm tickets can be picked up outside Mr. Hopple's office.
Reminders and The Week Ahead.
Intercession- Core content teachers, the names of students that you are recommending for intercession are due today. Please fill out this form if you have not.
Monday PD- Monday we will get back to our Monday PD time after a 2 week hiatus. Cheryl Caine and TJ McNally will provide us with some reading comprehension strategies. 7:45 start time in the Red Room
Language Objectives- Some of our new learning from last Friday was Language Objective and adding them to our Blackboard Configurations.
The language objective tells how the students will learn and/or demonstrate their mastery of
the lesson by reading, speaking, writing, or listening. Example: You will be able to explain the connection between the French and Indian War and the American Revolution.
These should now be include in all BBC's throughout the school.
Do Now's- Remember that the Do Now should be a pencil to paper or typing task that is 3-7 minutes in length. The purpose of the Do Now is to activate prior knowledge, preview upcoming learning, or to set the purpose for the lesson. Here is a resource both the BBC and the Do Now.
Have a Great Weekend!
