One Team One Family News and Notes

Our first few weeks have flown by and we are now already approaching the month of September.  As we continue to learn about our students in all classes we will continue to set ourselves up for success.  These first few weeks will pay off in the end because we have invested in those positive relationships and spent time getting to know names and faces and who our students are.  We know this will have impact on student achievement because students must know first and foremost that we care about them and their success.  We also know that this trust is built by action throughout the year.  For our junior high aged students this trust and these relationships are often fragile, which requires us all to be building and modeling each and everyday.  I am impressed with the investments that I have seen our staff make in these most important tasks over the first 3+ weeks.  Keep up the efforts and enthusiasm for our students. 

Highlights @ Lincoln: 

Kudos for Cheryl Caine and her new Bio Anatomy club.  This sounds like an amazing experience for the participants.  Great work of going above and beyond to engage students in science.  New clubs and opportunities are always exciting. 

Check Ins have been really good thus far.  We appreciate teachers coming prepared to discuss the check in questions and it is always nice to know how each of you are doing each month. 

Kudos to House Tsunami as they continue atop the House standings.  I has been amazing to see the various houses taking it upon themselves to do house building activities and help their kids connect with each other.  Be sure to share these activities with others and via social media.  I love it!  Students will no doubt grow to love their house, have a sense of belonging, and build commitment and pride within their house. 

Ms. De Lucenay has been visiting our HOPE classrooms and our ELL classrooms, all in an effort to connect with kids and as part of our system of support for these students.  She will continue to work in HOPE classrooms throughout the year along with other tier 1 and tier 2 supports for our students in regards to academics, social and emotional learning, and college and careers. 

The coffee cart returns:  Sam and her staff of Wendy, Mike, and Ashley continue to create an amazing environment and classroom for our Life Skills students.  The coffee cart is an awesome thing for both students and staff.  Make sure you sign up for your weekly coffee and snack in the office each week.  I love the rewards card idea.  Well done! 

Amazing Accolades: 

• Mrs. Garrity and Mrs. Neidlinger for there continued camera work during these first few weeks of school.  Way to capture our great start.
• Mrs. Garrity getting one of her challenging students (Kyle) to take on helping another student with their multiplication tables.  
• Cheryl Caine for knowing all of her students by first name.  
• Mark Schwing for not allowing students to opt out of learning and encouraging students to find multiple ways of solving problems in math. 
• Christina Burcham for doing great work with her ELL students and purposefully planning engaging activities for these students.  

We will continue to look for amazing work and provide highlights right here on the blog each week.  Thanks go to all of you for being amazing the first 3 weeks.  

Upcoming @ Lincoln:  

Student Council kicks off this week:  Interested students should listen for the call out during advisory on Tuesday.  I would love to have each House represented on the student council.  Thanks go to Megan and Leah for their leadership again this year.  I look forward to seeing our student council in action this year.  

NWEA Language Assessment:  Tuesday August 27th,  2 hour delay schedule 

Leadership Meeting- Tuesday 7:00 a.m. Red Room 

Monday PD:  Tomorrow we will look at ILEARN scores and the United Way will be here for the last 5-10 minutes.  I am not sure we will get to the Power Teacher update or the We Video info but stay tuned for both.

Blueberry Parking-  If you are heading to the Blueberry Festival this weekend please consider supporting Lincoln 8th graders as they park cars for their Washington DC trip by parking in the Amphitheater parking lot.  

Math and LA teacher work days- Sept. 5th and 6th

Traveling Awards- If you have any of the traveling awards from last year please bring those by the office.  We will start our awards in September.
