Master Schedule 2010-2011

Below is a link to a DRAFT of a master schedule for 2010-2011. Please note that the schedule is based on current information. If the budget situation changes or staffing changes, the schedule would need to be adjusted accordingly. The goals in looking at next year's schedule are:
  1. Improve our scores in Language Arts. This is an area where we need to show more growth as a school. We added some sections of Language Arts to help lower class sizes.
  2. Bonus Period-Continue with the Word Wednesday plan. We will continue to have a lot of free and reduced lunch students that need the background knowledge a good vocab plan provides. We want to increase the number of students receiving support in the area of language arts. We hope to do this through a tiered Bonus Period intervention plan in L.A.
  3. We want to provide our best students with the challenging course offering they'll need to excel.
  4. We would like to provide some foreign language opportunities to our kids. We can't add staff, so we hope to do this through Bonus Period using the Rosetta Stone software. We would also like to make sure we introduce our students to some Personal Finance concepts.
To accomplish our goals, here are some important items pertaining to the DRAFT:
  • Bonus Period assignments will happen the first week or two of school. At first, all students will be assigned to a home base and this is where we will spend the first week or two. We will use this time for you to get to know your home base kids, to review procedures, and to organize.
  • Students will continue to go to Home Base on Wednesdays for Word Wednesday and any housekeeping things that need to happen. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday will be used for remediation and enrichment.
  • Our plan is to Realign Bonus Period after each round of Acuity testing. So, we'll realign bonus period in October, early January (or late December), and at the end of February.
  • When we realign Bonus Period, we will also discuss what standards need to be reinforced in the remediation classes.
  • Students will be placed into three groups in each realignment process. Foundations (Kids needing basic skills), Bubble (Kids near the cut score line), and Proficient (kids who've mastered the standards). Kids in the Foundations and Bubble groups will be sent to a Lab for either Language Arts, Math, or Social Studies. Kids in the Proficient group will be placed into one of the Bonus Enrichment opportunities such as Newspaper, Rosetta Stone, etc.
  • The announcements are being recorded and posted. 5th period teachers will show announcements during the extra time in 5th Period. Bonus Period will not be used for announcements. The time will be set aside for the enrichments and remediation taking place.
  • Students will complete a Bonus Period enrichment request form. We will use that information to place the Proficient Students.
