THEN teachers can model and focus on consistent strategies for breaking down and understanding text.

AND THEN higher learning can take place in all content areas.
This is our FOCUS this year and it will drive our learning for Monday PD days. I hope that everyone felt that Monday's PD was beneficial and that it will help all students become successful in your classes. Remember the goal of scaffolding is to move students to where they can be successful independently. If we support them at the beginning then they will learn the skills to be successful in the long term. We will continue to look at scaffolding this next Monday. There will be more support and meaning making of scaffolding strategies. I would like for everyone to bring with them an upcoming lesson, unit, or learning progression. Teachers will have an opportunity to meet with who they are partnered with for peer observations to share and plan the implementation of scaffolding strategies. Other discussion questions will be:
What scaffolding can you use to make your upcoming lesson, learning progression or unit
more successful?
What will using these scaffolding strategies look like in your classrooms?
Highlights from the Week
I have already seen a strong effort from all teachers to scaffold procedures and common practices of note taking and reading text. Here are some pictures of that.
I have also had the chance to see a great start to the school year in many different ways. Students are being Respect, Responsible, Positive, and Safe and teachers are rewarding students for doing so. This practice will help us build a great culture where everyone is valued. Continue to connect with all students and especially those that really need a connection to be successful. You probably are learning who those students are by now.
Wow! I was able to hear our own Mrs. Walker speak about her experiences in Budapest over the last two summers helping refugees from all over the world. Her presentation to the students sent a powerful message about our world today and the struggles that face humanity. I love that our students are learning about the world beyond the walls of Lincoln and the bubble of Plymouth and Marshall County. After her presentation students were asked to write and share about what they were thankful for. 7th grade Humanities students are studying legacy and Mrs. Walker is building and sharing her very own legacy with students. Ask Mrs. Walker about her travels and work abroad.
Attendance- It is really important that we have all staff take attendance each period of the day. We need to be able to account for students throughout the day. Each Monday teachers will receive a report of their percentage of success the week prior. Those teachers reaching 100% will receive a special prize each week. We will start this next week and it will be a practice week. Thanks for your attention to this important procedure.
RUP Quiz- Max Time teachers please make sure that all of your students have taken the RUP Quiz. This is the basic quiz that all students need to do, not the assignments to move up tiers. As of Thursday morning 442 students had taken the quiz but many have not. You most likely will need to ask students whether they have taken it or not.
2015-2016 LJH Tiers- This spreadsheet is where you can find the names of students that have been moved up tiers or moved down. The link to this is also under links on the right side of the blog.
Passing Periods- Next week will be our 3rd week of school. We should now be seeing students on time, every time to class. We will stress this over the announcements but please help us by encouraging students each period and by having conversations with students during Max Time about the importance of being on Lincoln Time.
