The holiday season is now here. What does that mean for our students? It could mean excitement in anticipation of the upcoming season but for some it might be a difficult time of the year. I remember this exact point was made to me as a teacher in Indy years ago and it definitely caused me to think and to be more empathetic during the holiday season. Because we have been intentional in our efforts to get to know our students maybe we already know some students that the season brings anxiety, depression, worry, or fear. Our community circles provide us an opportunity to learn about our students and for our students to learn from each other. We also made it our goal to know every student every period therefore our ability to relate and be empathetic towards our students is greater than ever before. This fact will help our students who maybe are not looking forward to the holidays to get through a difficult time because you have made those important connections with those students. Lincoln is about caring adults and everyday we are developing empathy among our students and our community circles are of vital importance to building empathy. Thank you for continuing to connect with all students.

Pineapple Days- This is one take away that I had from the principals conference I attended last week that I would like to start here at Lincoln. Did you know that the pineapple symbolizes hospitality, friendship, and welcoming? It is true and that is why it is the state fruit of Hawaii. Pineapple days go like this: If you have something that you would like for others to see in your classroom I am challenging teachers to show their hospitality and welcoming nature and send out an email to others with the subject of Pineapple Day in your room. This will be an invite to all teachers to come and visit your classroom to see what is going on in your classroom. This can be a great way of visiting each others classrooms and celebrating the great things that each of you do in your classes. So I challenge all of you to be the first to send out a Pineapple Day email for your classroom. Who will be the first to get this started?

Jeans Week- Just a reminder that the Special Olympics Jeans Week starts tomorrow. Wear jeans all week for just 10 dollars, which will go directly to Special Olympics in the Plymouth Community and will help PHS earn the prestigious Champions Together Unified School Banner for only the second time in school history! Please give your contributions to this great cause to Sandy.
