Revisiting Your Goals

How are your goals going?  Are you continuing to meet with your selected group of students to monitor their progress?  How have you continued to adjust your strategies to meet their needs and be responsive? Are you continuing to connect with these students?  As we continue through this 3rd quarter and approach testing season it is always good to revisit such questions.  How about our school goals to improve in the following ways.

Language Arts-  To increase the percentage of 7th and 8th grade students proficient in
LA compared to the state average.  7th grade increase from 13% above to 20% above
the state average and 8th grade increase from 5% above state average to 10% above
state Average.

Strategies-
  • Increase amount of writing in all classes, specifically focused on informative writing
  • Increase the use of Yes maam in Language Arts classes and begin to implement in Science and Social Studies

  • Implement close reading of complex text strategies in LA classes
  • Monitor each of these strategies through admin walk-throughs and monthly check ins
  • Utilize NWEA data and quarterly common writing data to inform instruction

As we close February, we will be scheduling check ins between now and spring break.  These will serve as check ins for February and March.  Be on the lookout for invites.

Accolades @ Lincoln

Thanks to Susan LaFree, Leah Trost, Maddie Wohlfert, and Betsy Bowen for organizing our February Spirit Assembly.  We have one more to go on the19th of March.

Kudos to our Math department for continuing to help students become better at problem solving and seeing higher level questions.  Specifically kudos to Matt Harter for being relentless to these two goals.  Upon observation this past week students in Matt's classes could be seen doing higher level work using their CUBES, determining which answer are correct, discussing why certain answers were not.

Kudos to our students in 1st semester mass media classes as 16 of them are up for national radio/broadcasting awards.  The awards will be determined March 6th and 7th in New York City.  Well don Paula for giving our students opportunity for their work to be rewarded.
