Persistence in our instruction- We will need to continue to push students to do more than they think they can do. Requiring students to write daily in classes. This writing can be parts of the do nows, exit slips, checks for understanding during direct instruction, formal writing assignments, summaries, online discussions and more. Why? Because writing requires students to think and process their learning and thinking.
Persistence in reading, asking students to read complex text and making sense of the text. This might look like modeling what good readers do when reading, annotating, identifying and making meaning of difficult vocabulary, reading lab instructions, making sense of math word problems, reading primary sources, sharing annotations, setting purpose for reading the text. Why? Because if students can't understand or won't read complex text they will not be ready. Ready for High school, ready for ILEARN, ready for careers, ready for college, ready for life.
Persistence in checking understanding. We will need to continue to know where students are in learning our lesson objectives. Can students do what we want to them to be able to do? Persistence in communicating what you want students to be able to do. This should be clear to students everyday. Then we need to know if they can do it. Why? Because we can be persistent in our planning to assure they can and respond appropriately when they can't.
Persistence in our expectations. The expectations that we started the school year with. Remember boot camp? We must keep kids in classrooms, because when they are in classrooms they are learning, connecting, and growing. Every minute counts, bell to bell. Keep kids in the classrooms. Review the expectation that students need to take care of business during passing period. This doesn't mean that in emergencies we tell students sorry you can't go however it is being persistent in our expectations of students, they will be learning, connecting, growing in our classroom. This will be good practice for all of us as we move to a new building next year where it will be really important that students are where they need to be and have permission to be where they go. Persistent in giving students passes to go anywhere. We are teachers, continue to teach our expectations daily to be Amazing.

Megan Wiesenberg, Jodi Kallenberg, Brandi Brennan, and Lisa Wallyn- Kudos to all for hosting the Art Extravaganza. Thanks for putting the Arts on display here at Lincoln.
Angie Bronicki and Leah Trost- Great work with our Geography Bee. Angie ran the Bee for the conference and Leah coached our students to a strong performance. Thanks also to the social studies department for working the Bee. Thanks Kevin for scoring and Riley for reading the questions. Well done.
Angie Bronicki- I was able to witness Angie is her classroom this past week and wow students were engaged and thinking in her classroom. First it was clear what she wanted students to know and be able to do. (clarity) Students were also thinking constantly, students up moving, connecting in their learning, engaged in the content, reading and thinking. Every minute counted in her room and when the class was over a student said "Is class over already?" Kudos to Angie for her purposeful planning and growth mindset to try out new engaging strategies to help students. If you have time during your prep check out her classroom.
Cheryl Caine- Thanks for preparing for your 2nd semester of the Bio-Anatomy club. Kudos for giving our students another way of engaging with Science and a safe place to be after school.
Lori Day- Thanks for your commitment to our Athletic study tables. Her work at these after school study tables help many of our students to remain eligible and involved in something positive here at Lincoln. Kudos also for your organization of our upcoming South Bend Cubs reading event. Always a great event to promote reading here at Lincoln. Stay tuned for details of the upcoming event.

Monday PD- iPad PD- Bring your charged iPad, (no computers). Chris Horvath will take us through some Apps that could be used in classrooms. We will close tomorrow with thinking about how we need to use the iPad to prepare students for the upcoming ILEARN assessment.

Valentine's Day- Our PTO has been selling Valentine grams in the cafeteria during the last couple of weeks. These Valentine messages will be delivered on Friday with a can of soda. I believe that they will be delivered to 8th period however I will double check.
