80/80 What does this mean?

On Tuesday I presented the Spring 2012 ISTEP scores to our board of education and was asked what are our goals for this year. Good question. We were a C school last year and obviously we want to be the best we can be. I want to be a 90/90 school which means 90% of our students pass both LA and math on ISTEP. However before we can be 90/90 we need to get to 80/80. By doing so our grade potentially could be a B or A. Last year, 76.7% of our students passed LA and 79.8% passed math. The 7th grade group as 6th graders, 90% passed Math and 86% passed LA. With this data in mind our goals are as follows.

 Goal 1 The percentage of all students passing Language Arts will increase from 76.7% to 84% as measured by the Spring 2013 ISTEP test.

 Goal 2 The percentage of all students passing Math will increase from 79.8% to 85% as measured by the Spring 2013 ISTEP test.

 These are ambitious goals but I know that we all have high expectations of ourselves and our students. We must stay focused and together if we are going to meet these high standards. Here is a look at our first predictive Acuity results: We will keep a close eye on these throughout the year as well as teachers keeping track of specific standards that as a cohort we are struggling with so that we make adjustments and help students be the best they can be.

 So what does 80/80 mean to you if you are not an LA or Math teacher? What practices and skills must you develop in our students to help all students reach our goals? Our ability to work together and answer these questions and put into place strategies will determine our success.
