I hope that everyone enjoyed the nice long weekend. We have now been in school for 9 days in person and 17 days total. I continue to be impressed with everyones flexibility and and positivity as we provide learning opportunities for both our in person and virtual students. I want to commend everyone for your patience and professionalism with regards to our NWEA testing on Wednesday and Thursday. This beginning of the year testing is important for us to know where students are in their learning and to use what we learn to meet the needs of our students. The data that we have on our students coming into the school year has been limited as there was no iLearn data for our students from last spring. This NWEA data can help us better prepare our instruction for all learners. I encourage our Math and LA teachers to use the data in this way and I encourage our collaborative teams to refer to the data when discussing students, confirming our observations, or strategizing our next steps for instruction.
We have been meeting with teachers for our first round of check ins over the last couple of weeks. We still have a few to wrap up this coming week. As we look to our next check in in either late September or October, we encourage teachers to be formulating their goal for this school year. The data from NWEA could be used to identify your goal. It can help you identify students that you would like to target for your goal. The goal form can be found here on the blog. We ask that teachers:
- Identify a targeted group to measure your impact
- Determine the data that you used to identify the group
- Create action steps that you will use to accomplish your goal
- Determine how you will measure and track your impact (How will you know you are successful)
Please make a copy of the goal form to fill it out. Have a rough draft of your goal ready to go over during our next round of check ins.
Last week we learned of the passing our one of our former students. It is a blow to the gut when we lose one of our students. It serves as an opportunity to reflect on our structures and our school environment. Junior High and adolescents is a tough time for many of our students. Your commitment to the social and emotional well being of our students is immensely important. We must continue to connect with all of our students, every single one is important, we have to let them know that we love them and that they belong here at Lincoln. Our community circles are a core strategy that we use to help students socially and emotionally. Please continue to do these circles with fidelity in your advisory classes. After 9 days we probably can identify students that need an extra bit of love. Make sure we are talking with these students, calling on them, asking them about their interests, giving them specific and individualized feedback, and just connecting with them. The impact that you have is huge. We are One Team One Family.

Team Lincoln- For successfully completing the BOY NWEA assessment with both our in person and virtual students. Well done! Audria will be doing make up testing sessions this week. Stay tuned.
Team Lincoln- For your positivity and flexibility working with our students and families and balancing both in person and virtual learning. I know I said this last blog post but, Wow, you are Amazing and I would not trade our staff for another. You have knocked it out of the park. Keep up the good work.
Ryan Ahlrich- Ryan has created amazing Canvas courses for his students. He has challenged himself to do the amazing things that he had done on paper in the past and transferred it all to his Canvas courses for an engaging, interactive, and student centered learning experience for his students. And did I mention that our ELL students had 91% growth measured by WIDA last year. If you have not seen his courses be sure to ask Ryan to show you what he has created. We will continue to have Ryan share to the staff throughout the year. The growth our students showed is a result of both Ryan and Team Lincoln learning from him. It is a success that we all should celebrate. This success shows the staff's growth mindset and willingness to learn and meet the needs of all students.
Kudos to Audria DeLucenay- Thank you to Audria for her work last week as we learned of the passing of one of our former Team Lincoln students . Knowing the pride that Audria takes in the social and emotional well being of our students and staff is reassuring. Thank you!
The Coke Machine has arrived- Be sure to visit the lounge if you want a cold beverage. The machine is supposed to be able to accept cards and Apple pay. Be the first to try it out.
