We now have 8 weeks of the 2018-2019 school year remaining. It will be a busy time with lots of hard work in front of all of us. A few blog posts ago I talked about finishing strong in the 4th quarter, together as a staff we must finish strong and continue to help our students be successful here at Lincoln. I hope that everyone has enjoyed their two week Spring Break and found time to relax and enjoy themselves and their families. As I reflect on my own break, I was able to get away and enjoy some sun and beach in Siesta Key for a week and also able to find some time to relax at home the second week without thinking too much about the 4th quarter and what lies ahead. However the time is upon us and together we must continue to learn and grow until the end and it will take our team, Team Lincoln, to collectively finish strong and together.
The weather has changed, students have had two weeks off, and it is nearing a crucial time of the year. Getting back into the routines and continuing to connect with our students to engage them and to show them how much we care is most imperative at this time. As a staff we set the tone and are the ones who make a difference each of our remaining days with our students this year. Remember the marbles in the jar from the beginning of the year, well there are only 40 some marbles left to have the impact we all want to have. Make each day count!

Follow Up On Lincoln Discussion- Before break several items were brought to the discussion table and I would like to provide some follow up.
Lunch Bells- We have programmed a couple of extra bells during the lunch period to indicate the times that students should be in their advisory classes that have not been there throughout the year. These should help in our transitions.
Students during lunch- Speaking of transitions it was discussed that too many students are not getting to where they need to be during their lunch periods. Several suggestions were made during discussion. Some of the suggestions would require pretty big changes to our procedures, such as walking students to and from lunch from our 4th period or advisory classes. We will not put this big change in during the last quarter of the year. Rather we need to collectively have a team approach to make sure students are getting down to lunch and being where they need to be. Our hallway supervision during this time and all times will be immensely important during this home stretch. We will continue to access the situation and if needed make any other adjustments come the start of the 2019-2020 school year. Right now we all need to actively supervise our hallways especially during our lunch hour. Collectively we are the difference makers.
Hall Sweeps- These will be happening more often more of the time as we continue to help students understand ON TIME, EVERY TIME, IS LINCOLN TIME.
Students Out of Class- It is imperative that we keep students in class as much as possible. If you send students to work in the hallways please be sure to check on them frequently and review their expectations prior. There are always those students that cannot be trusted and I understand these are usually the ones that do not accept no for an answer when they ask to go however we need to keep them in classrooms as much as possible. Emphasize that once they are in they are in and that they need to get done what they need to get done during passing period. This is their responsibility. We are ordering student handbooks (passports) for next school year for students to use in organizing themselves and there will be allotted passes for each quarter know as a pass page in them. Hopefully this will also help with keeping students in classes for bell to bell instruction. Bell to bell instruction is a best practice and will continue to help in this aspect as well.
Connect Group Scheduling- Julie will continue to work with Milene Jeffirs to have these at the least disruptive times as possible. These connect groups will continue to be very important interventions for our students' social and emotional well being. We thank Mrs. Jeffirs for her time spent with our students to help them.
ILEARN- As we all know this will be our first time with our new test this Spring. Although we have spent some time around some of the information regarding the test we will pick up the pace between now and the testing window April 22nd to May 17th. There is a ton of information that has been published and together we will tackle the new procedures. Again, it is new for all of us so there are no dumb questions. Please help me and each other be as prepared as we can be by asking questions and preparing yourself when we share information. I have spent a lot of time preparing myself however I will need your help with asking questions to make me think. I thank you for your growth mindsets and remember together we will be successful. Summer Book Studies- Please fill out this form of your interests in a book study via Canvas over the upcoming summer. One book I would like for all teachers to read the others are additional options. These can earn teachers PGP points for license renewal. All studies will be worth 12 PGPs for reading and completing the online discussion.
